AI and Authorship Policy
AI and Authorship
The Science Journal of University of Zakho (SJUOZ) is a member of COPE. Accordingly, SJUOZ follows COPE Guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in publishing and authorship. Our policy states that AI software cannot be listed as an author on a manuscript.
ChatGPT and similar AI tools are not human and therefore cannot independently design studies, create or critique methodologies, interpret data, or take responsibility for the outcomes and implications of research. For this reason, such tools must be treated strictly as assistive tools, not authors. More information can be found in COPE’s guidance on AI and authorship.
AI and Automated Tools
SJUOZ applies the following policies regarding the use of AI and automated tools:
- SJUOZ will not review or accept manuscripts written by nonhuman authors. Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI tools must not be listed in the author byline.
- Authors must disclose whether AI tools were used in preparing or generating any part of their manuscript. SJUOZ reserves the right to request detailed information about how AI tools or LLMs were used.
- Reviewers are not permitted to use LLMs or AI tools when evaluating manuscripts or preparing review comments.
- SJUOZ will continuously monitor the ethical implications of AI and automation as policies and technologies evolve.
- The maximum allowable ratio of AI-generated content in a manuscript is 15%.
